Clubhouse is organized to support people living with mental illness. During their participation in clubhouse, members gain access to opportunities to rejoin the worlds friendships, family, employment, education, and access to the services and support they may individually need to continue their recovery. A clubhouse provides a restorative environment for people whose lives have been severely disrupted because of their mental illness, and who need the support of others who are in recovery and who believe that mental illness is treatable.
Clubhouses are located all over the world there are nearly 300 clubhouses in 30 countries. New Reflection House was established initially around 1986. The building that New Reflection House is in now was built in 2009 and is located at 565 West 900 South Tooele, UT 84074.
Clubhouse is a supportive environment for men and women who are challenged by mental illness. It’s a place where members are embraced and not treated as clients or patients. They feel welcome, safe, appreciated and where they are accorded the dignity and respect they deserve. It’s an opportunity to participate in a work-ordered day as a response to the debilitating effects of isolation, marginalization, stigma and fragmented self-esteem. Members work side by side with staff and other members in order to manage all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the program from food service and maintenance to clerical and administration. Members develop the task-oriented stamina, discipline, rhythm, and confidence necessary to succeed in the workplace. Members and staff develop relationships based on trust, teamwork, and mutual recognition of each other’s contributions. It’s an opportunity to move towards independence and away from dependance.
Members find a comprehensive, intensive, and integrated array of supports to help them maximize their potential and participate more fully in the community. It is a launching pad for successful reintegration into society through access to employment opportunities, education, and housing. It’s a focus more on wellness as opposed to illness. It’s about empowerment, hope, and a lifeline guarantee.
The work-order day engages members and staff together side by side in the running of the clubhouse. All the clubhouse work is designed to help members regain their self- worth, purpose and confidence. New Reflection House focuses on the strengths, talents and abilities of its members and gives them the opportunity to participate in all the work of the program.
New Reflection House has recreational and social programs during evenings and weekends. Major holidays are celebrated on the actual day they are observed. These activities give members the opportunity to socialize and build relationships with other people and staff of the clubhouse.
